New Face of the IT industry…..it’s sure to amaze you!

hi all,

While I am writing this Blog, I am almost in a state of shock. What is most shocking  is that this news is related to the industry in which I am currently employed, and this indirectly leaves me vulnerable.

Well, I will quote two examples to leave you people shocked too…..

First, One of my friends works for an Indian MNC, I feel quoting the name would have a better impact, The name of the company is Satyam……well how much do you think could be his salary…all the non-IT people have started to envy the IT guys just b’coz of the salary we get, but I am sure that you will start to have sympathy over the issue if I tell you the salary he has got this month (and what will really leave you helpless, will the reason why he got this salary)…..he got just Rs 6000/- as his salary and this was all b’coz he missed the office on all the Saturdays and Sundays…….I wonder how could this happen to anyone……what does the company expect out of him….should he attend the office 7 days a week? Should he forget all the pleasures of life? And all this for a peanut salary? I belong to a place which can be termed as a cheap city……there also an amount like 6000 is not enough for a month, how come they expect a person to have a life in an expensive city like Hyderabad/Bangalore with just 6000/- in hand?  I can term it as nothing more than the lack of respect for the Human Resource. And this also reflects the face of the New IT industry, in the name of cost cutting they have started to decrease the salaries and increased the work-load, is it cost-cutting or rebirth of Bonded Labour……only you can answer, I am left speechless!

Second examples comes from the closest neighbour of the heart of India…..NOIDA……again, I find it essential to mention the name of the company…..HCL Tech.

well, before I continue with the story about HCL Tech, I would like to tell you the philosophy of recruiting the employees direct from the campus (in their final/pre-final year of college). Well, companies have to follow a standard for their operations…..and one of the latest names in that list is CMM level 5, this standard says that – a total of 20% of of the total number of the employees should always be in free-pool…..so that whenever there is some uneven work-load it could be distributed over these employees…..such that there is no delay in the delivery of the peoject. This free pool thing is known by several names – on bench, shadow, etc etc.

Now let me continue with the HCL Tech story. This company recruited the employees from several colleges in order to meet the CMM level 5 standards. But even after so much time after their joining they could not be alloted any work; now, this has started to pinch the organization because these employees are eating away a large amount of the earnings against no contribution from their side. So the company has decided to put such 20% guys into their Call-Centre division.

The question which arises here is that – Has the company gone bankrupt of vision/innovation that they have decided to take such a step. Will this not send a wrong signal to the masses? And next year they might not even get an opportunity to visit several campuses. In addition to this they are losing the hard-earned good-will of the market.

Also, it implies that companies are getting so desperate towards their financial gains that they have absolutely neglected the issues concerned with their employees. In a way, what HCL Tech is doing is not only unethical but is also a crime. First, you are giving very high hopes to the person while you visit the campus and then you suddenly shatter their dreams. This is surely an unethical way to meet your Business Goals.

With such incidents taking place in Big Oraganization like Satyam and HCL Tech, I can’t even try to imagine the scenario of smaller IT companies. But the implication are that this industry too needs something like a mass-revolution or a sever make-over. I might be exaggerating the issue w.r.t. to the present issue, but I am sure that day is not too far. Keep Watching!

Guys, these two are the real incidents, and my friends have been  victimized……..and thats why I wanted to bring this to your notice.

hi all…..it’s been long since I wrote my last blogs page here. Without giving any regular excuses for my absence, I just want to say that I got a bit lazy…….and after getting back from my office I didn’t want to sit infront of a computer anymore. So thats it!

Even now, while I am updating my page I am in my office.

In the mean time I have seen that my friends too have stopped updating their pages….why so? Specially, I would like to point out Ashish (www.latestinindia.com) he is also getting a bit inactive (but not like me). What about Arshad, Aditya…..where are you all? I feel so lonely writing here.

Anyways…..since I am back now you can expect a daily dose of something good.

take care bye!
