Mr. Arjun Singh – HRD Minister – Congress
Following are the real incidents of his past. PICKED UP FROM GOOGLE SEARCH AND FROM VARIOUS NEWS SOURCES
DENIED TICKET IN 1996 FOR INVOLVEMENT IN HAWALA CASE
In a way, it was a poetic justice for Mr Rao, the architect of Jain hawala witchunt which was targeted against his political rivals in the Congress. In 1996 Lok Sabha polls, using the hawala charges Mr Rao had denied tickets to Congress stalwarts like Arjun Singh, Madhav Rao Scindia, Kalpanath Rai, P Shiv Shanker, Balram Jakhar, Motilal Vora, Ajit Panja, VC Shukla, and RK Dhavan. For Mr Rao , it was a question of preserving its " high moral value."
BEARING PERSONAL GRUDGE AGAINST Haryana CM Mr. HOODA: BEING TRIED IN A CRIMINAL CASE
It was meant to be a legal battle between a Congress warhorse and the RSS. But it is fast turning into a fight between HRD minister Arjun Singh and the Haryana government.Singh is at loggerheads with Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's government for appointing an ''RSS'' man as the state's advocate general (AG). The minister's grouse is not only ideological but also personal: Haryana AG Hawa Singh Hooda, a man said to be handpicked by the CM, is the RSS counsel in a criminal case against the HRD minister.
STARTS GRANT AS AGAINST A LAW OF 26 YEARS
As the Council was fully financed (with cent per cent grant) by the Government of India, it was decided In fact, the Congress Session in\nDecember, 1990 had to be held at Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) but the Indian\nHistory Congress on the pretext of not having received the financial\nassistance from the local host Madhya Prades Government in time shifted its venue later to March, 199- at New Delhi.
ver since then, the Indian History Congress has been getting annual\ngrants from the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government\nof India, regularly till date. At the same time, as before, it has also\nbeen gett\ning annual grants from the ICHR both for holding sessions and\npublication of the proceedings. Moreover, it has also been getting\nfinancial assistance from the host University/ State Government for the\nlocal hospitality.
HIS POPULARITY AND IDEOLOGY ARE REFLECTED IN THIS NEWS SNIPPET
Early in August Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh – a man who has hardly any following even in his own native state indicated that RSS sympathisers in the bureaucracy would become one of the main targets of the UPA government. Addressing a national convention on secularism, Arjun Singh said: "Our first duty is that the fascist forces of RSS should be detected. Today the government is in the grip of the RSS, we have to cleanse it".
Is that a cabinet decision? If it is not, why hasn't it been officially contradicted? And how does Arjun Singh propose to detect the "Fascist forces" in government? Will every staff member right down from the Secretary to the lowly peon be given a lie detection test? Are we having a new form of McCarthyism in India?
HIS SON JOINS BJP; HE HIMSLEF LEFT CONGRESS
That was Arjun singh whose son tried to join BJP just before general elections. That was Arjun singh who left congress during p v narsimharao tenure.
WHAT HE THINKS OF HISTORY
It was expected of them that they should identify the 'mistakes and communal passage in the current history textbooks of NCERT and suggest alternative expressions.' This was not done; simply because they could not find even one mistake or communal statement in the book. They could not comment or even deny the evidence given in the books on the issues like cow eating in ancient India, Aryan migration, Vedic civilization, science, astronomy, mathematics etc. during the Vedic period, atrocities on Hindus and destruction of the places of worship during the medieval period. Despite no mistakes, despite no communal passages fund in the books, the members recommended that the books should be withdrawn.
WHAT HE THINKS OF US AS A NATION: NCERT TEXT BOOKS
Arjun Singh has gone to the extent of suggesting that 'idea of India' as a nation 'took shape only during our freedom struggle'.
When 'eminent historians' as well as prominent congress leaders like Gandhi have argued that India was a one nation long before the British came, Mr. Arjun Singh in one stroke has done away nearly 5000 years of Indian history by endorsing the British historians, that it was only after the British came that India became one nation.
HIS THINKING OF RAM KRISHNA PARAMHANSA
What is Arjun Singh's definition of de-saffronisation? The whole world would be shocked by the way in which Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa has been introduced in a text book for children officially produced by Arjun Singh's HRD Ministry through the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The non-communal, cosmopolitan and secular authour of this book is comrade Satish Deshpande. He is part of Arjun Singh's crusade to detoxify the students afflicted by the so-called 'saffronisation'. He has written in this book that \'Sri\nRamakrishna was an illiterate and mentally unbalanced person\'.
OTHER INPUTS
As events of that time may be recalled, after Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, two men were in the race, Sharad Pawar and Arjun Singh (Both are incidentally, cabinet ministers under Manmohan Singh). Pawar had money power. Arjun Singh thought he could bank on his loyalty to the Gandhi family.
For Arjun, Rao was not sufficiently secular enough. But Arjun Singh could not gain anything politically. In fact, since that time, he has never been able to win a single popular election. He has lost all elections to the Lok Sabha. Now he is a Rajya Sabha member, courtesy Sonia Gandhi. He returned to the Congress after Rao was sidelined in the Congress party following the 1996 poll debacle.
It is an open secret that Arjun Singh desperately wants to become the Prime Minister, because he thinks that he is a Gandhi-Nehru loyalist and a man of deep secular convictions, besides being much senior politically to Manmohan Singh, who, incidentally, came to the Congress when Narasimha Rao made him the country's finance minister in 1991. Arjun Singh considers Manmohan to be a technocratic usurper of a post meant for a politician. Arjun Singh is not impressed by the fact that Pranab Mukherjee, the defence minister, is not only senior to him in the party but also the one whom Manmohan Singh was reporting to in the 1980s. It may be noted that Pranab Mukherjee was the finance minister of India under Mrs Indira Gandhi in between 1980-84, and those days he was the boss of Manmohan Singh, then a secretary in the Finance ministry. In fact, it was Pranab who later made Manmohan Singh the governor of Reserve bank of India.
Arjun Singh is playing upon the one basic weakness of the Prime Minister – Manmohan is not a traditional politician, he lost the only Lok Sabha poll he contested, and his reflexes and impulses are non-political.
